Tropical Sorbet Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 cans diced mango
- 2 bananas sliced
- 3 pineapple rings quartered
- .25 cups water
- .25 cups sugar
Instructions
- Bring the water and sugar to a simmer in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until sugar is incorporated fully and let cool to form a syrup
- Add fruit into a blender and mix until smooth
- Add syrup to blender
- Chill mixture in the refridgerator for 1-2 hours
- Follow your ice cream maker's directions for sorbet to freeze or place in a freezer-safe container and into a freezer for 4-8 hours, hand-churning every 30 minutes
You can make this without the added sugar and water. Either add some pineapple juice or rely on the sugars in the fruits for a naturally sweetened sorbet. Just be sure to either eat it when it’s initially frozen and slightly slushy, or to let it sit and soften for 5-10 minutes if you’ve left it in the freezer overnight. Unless, that is, you are fond of taking a bite out of particularly solid objects. Then it’s fine at any time. In fact, consider pouring the mixture into an ice cube tray to make frozen fruit cubes or fruit bars.
This sorbet contains fruits that are typically considered tropical but are rather accessible. Found in most grocery stores and pantries. In fact, this recipe has canned fruit in it for that reason. While the peak time for pineapples in my area is close, mangoes aren’t quite in-season yet. I imagine this can be modified by including additional fruits – strawberries, papaya, kiwis, or peaches would be grand experiments.
Flavor-wise, the taste of the tropical sorbet aligns itself with canned mango (which is rather peachy in combination with the banana). If this tropical sorbet is not be the best fit for your taste or pantry preferences, other flavors and sordid sorbet fun are available in these recipes.
